Half Marathon Turn-by-Turn

KM 0.0 | Start | Mahoenui Valley Rd
Race Start will be Mahoenui Valley Rd, lined up in the gap between the Coatesville Settlers Hall and the outdoor swimming pool. Participants will head south-west along Mahoenui Valley Rd – directly towards the rising sun.

KM 2.1 | Ahead > Dotcom Mansion
In the early 2010s, Dotcom Mansion – as it was then known – was one of the most famous properties in New Zealand. In early 2012, it was the site of a famous raid, coordinated by New Zealand Police and the FBI, to arrest the then resident, internet mogul Kim Dotcom. These days, the property is owned by the Zuru toys siblings and continues to make an arresting sight as you pass. Beware though, the gated entry way and pond also mark the beginning of Heartbreak Hill – the climb up to Ridge Rd.

KM 2.7 | Turn Right > Ridge Rd
At the top of Heartbreak Hill, make a right hand turn onto Ridge Rd. You will now remain on this road for the next 10km.

KM 10.2 | Turnaround > Ridge Rd
After taking the “esses” down from the higher points of Ridge Rd, there is a flat 500 metre section not the very end of the road, almost at the junction with Coatesville-Riverhead Highway. This is where you’ll find the turnaround point and – guess what – now you have to climb all the way back up there!

KM 13.3 | Turn Left > Wake Rd
Now heading east and back towards the finish line, you’ll hit an out-and-back section - where Wake Rd joins Ridge Rd – which ensures we have an accurate 21.1km distance. The 500 metre section to the turn point is gently downhill.

KM 13.8 | Turnaround / Wake Rd
Once at the turn point, the course climbs gently back up to Ridge Rd.

KM 14.3 | Turn Left / Ridge Rd
Out of the turnaround and back onto Ridge Rd … now you are really on your way home!

KM 17.2 | Turn Left / Glenmore Rd
The hills are behind you (almost) and it is mostly flat to downhill from here. Turn into peaceful Glenmore Road and enjoy the views to the countryside north of Coatesville. Depending on your race time, you may encounter 8k participants at this point.
Important! You must run on the right side of the road all the way down Glenmore.

KM 17.9 | Turn Right / Donaldson Drive
The short out-and-back on Donaldson Drive is designed to ensure the loop course measures exactly 8km. It is also the spot for the final aid station so take on some fuel and get ready to haul it downhill to the line!

KM 18.0 | Turnaround / Donaldson Drive
You’ll find the aid station just after making the turnaround.

KM 18.1 | Turn Right / Glenmore Rd
After the out-and-back, we’re back onto Glenmore Rd for the final charge.

KM 20.6 | Bear Right / Glenmore Rd
At the bottom of Glenmore Road, just before the turn into the pony club, you’ll be directed off the road and onto a gravel path to the entrance gate.

KM 20.7 | Turn Right / Coatesville Pony Club
At the end of Glenmore Road, you’ll turn right and through the pedestrian gate into Coatesville Pony Club (the place where you parked your car this morning). Follow the lime path under the trees all the way to the entrance gate into Coatesville Reserve.

KM 20.9 | Turn Right / Coatesville Reserve
Into the reserve and we’re nearly there. Take a sharp right and follow the footpath between the ponds and around to the north side of the reserve before turning into the finish chute.

Congratulations ... you made it!
